Let's create an Indigenous success movement.
I am really sick of the separation and division across the Indigenous business space. It's time we started to look deeper into the barriers that continue to stop Indigenous business people from succeeding. There are many barriers that stop us from succeeding, some of these barriers include lack of finance, trauma, entry to market barriers, lack of trust in non-Indigenous organisations, doubt, and tall poppy syndrome. One of the big barriers that I notice is the fear of being successful or what we call 'big noting'. I often see that sharing individual success within our communities can cause the individual a lot of stress, especially for our young people. I also want to shift the narrative from fear of success to a narrative of celebration and joy when we are successful. I LOVE to see Blak People get paid, I LOVE to see Blak People succeed and I LOVE to share their success. When they rise, we rise. We all walk on the shoulders of our ancestors and we are all destined to be ancestors. Our individual success should be celebrated.
For this year's Indigenous business month, I want to celebrate the theme Actions today, Impact tomorrow by starting a LinkedIn movement that celebrates the Indigenous Business person today. It doesn't matter the size of the business, or the company you work for or own, all that matters is you and your story. I Rise, We Rise, is about you and your success, it demonstrates the power of one within a community and shows that we are proud of what we do and how we do it.
How it will work?
Well, I don't know about you, but I like things to be as easy as possible. With that in mind, I have created a template. Simply share this article. Copy and paste the below (also in my Linked post) add your section and tag the people you want to celebrate. Hopefully, together we can start a movement.
Job Title: Who is your mob? What are you proud of achieving in your workplace? Link your workplace here: Name an Indigenous person you admire and why: Name and link three Indigenous people you want to celebrate and want to hear from:
If you are linked please share the person who linked you, copy and paste, and enter your own information.
